Eligibility

A simplification is:

  1. Native English speaker and citizen of a listed country.
  2. Education:
    • MA or above#, or
    • BA# plus general work experience*
  3. Teaching experience:
    • License^ or
    • Teaching experience* plus
      1. related degree or
      2. TESOL/TEFL/CELTA certificate

The complex government regulations are:

Candidates for the TEACH Fellowship Program in Taiwan should have a strong interest in Taiwan or in a career teaching, particularly teaching English to speakers of other languages.

  1. Native English speaker.
  2. Citizen (as shown on the passport) of one of the following countries:  United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand.
  3. Education
    Degrees must be from a university recognized by Taiwan# and received before arrival in Taiwan.
    • Master’s degree or above, or
    • Bachelor’s degree and two years* total of general work experience
  4.  Teaching
    • State teaching license^ in any subject, or
    • One year* total of teaching experience at K-12 schools, plus
      1. Degree in education, English, or related field with 120+hours of related coursework or
      2. TESOL, TEFL, CELTA certificate approved by an accredited university. Distance learning cannot exceed 2/3 of the course hours.

# If your institution is not listed in the link provided, you may be eligible by exception and should contact AICEE.

* From your resume, AICEE can do an initial evaluation of general work and/or teaching experience to determine what qualifies toward the total time required. Ministries of Labor and Education make the final determination.

^ If you hold a university degree plus a teaching liscense, then you may not require general work experience. Contact ACIEE.

˙ Applicants with teaching licenses or certificates are preferred, and retired teachers are eligible.
